I love the design of creating biking infrastructure…but James Taylor is right, the design isn't feasible. Additionally…is this really the system we want to put in place to provide the public health incentives for a historic shift from driving to biking? If we start building for bikes, we'll get bikers……but we can't continue to let cars have everything, remove bikes from the places people need to go, and expect great numbers of bikers. Replace large road areas with large desirable biking environments…provide a healthy, simple biking environment; everything starts there, necessarily

What annoys me most about this, is that if they only tried it on a small scale first by trying to cycle along a piece of guttering fixed to the ground, they would have realised what a terrible idea this is. See point above about bike dynamics and counter-steering.

Great idea. Pity it won't work. With the friction dragging one side of the handlebars back the bike would constantly be trying to jump out of the channel. This would also have the effect of throwing the rider off balance to the left. Perhaps two wires either side?

Please, get familiar with the bicycle dynamics, especially the act of countersteering. Riding a bike on a narrow U-track will be a terrible experience.

the u-shape of the track introduces dramatically increased friction around the edges of the wheels, making pedaling much harder and less efficient

Love it! Some additional issues to solve - 1) an improved interface with the bike, with both horizontal and vertical adjustment, to keep different sized bikes centered over the tube, also to attach to bikes that have different types of handlebars - maybe something with velcro? 2) the rider safety attachment and wire must be both redundant and independent of the bike system, so even if the bike system fails, the rider is safe - perhaps an overhead wire to clip into?
